Avery Island Kosher Salt

A product of Avery Island, La. For hundreds of years Native Americans boiled Avery Island's natural briny spring water to extract its valuable salt, a practice continued into the 1800's by early European settlers. In 1862, however, the Avery family discovered solid rock salt beneath the Island's surface-a virtually inexhaustible supply of extremely pure salt said to be as deep as Mount Everest is high. In 1868 E. McIlhenny even mixed some of the Island's salt with crushed red peppers, later adding vinegar to create his now famous TABASCO brand Pepper Sauce.

This salt does not supply Iodide, a necessary nutrient.
